The Basics |
The basic tenants of Christianity are really very simple: Creation Almighty God created everything and it was perfect. - Genesis 1 Corruption God created man in His own image and Adam chose to rebel against God. The result was death and the complete corruption of all creation. Death and separation from God was passed on to every descendant of Adam. - Genesis 3, Romans 5 Man is Wicked God’s moral law is instinctive and is clearly seen. As sinners, we willfully reject God. - Romans 1 God’s Law is the standard. - Exodus 20 We know that we’ve broken every command. - Romans 3:23 God is Just God is Holy and just and, as a perfect Judge, must punish lawbreakers. - Hebrews 11:29 Justice was Satisfied in Christ Jesus took our place and paid our penalty completely. - Romans 5:8, Romans 6:23 Repentance & Faith are Required Every prophet, apostle, and Christ Himself had the same message; turn from sin and self and turn to Christ. - John 3:3, Luke 13:3, Romans 10:9-13 Reconciliation with God is Awesome What an incredible thing to be rightly related to Almighty God by accepting the gift of forgiveness and eternal life from the Lord Jesus Christ. - John 17:3, Psalm 32 |

But The Christian God Is Not Fair |
The argument goes like this, “Christianity says that a vile, child-abusing murderer who believes in Jesus will be forgiven and go to heaven but a nice religious person, who would never hurt anyone and is sincerely religious in something other than Christianity, will go to hell because they don’t believe in Jesus. I can’t accept that, it is not fair, and therefore I reject Christianity.” That argument is based on two things, 1) a misunderstanding of the human condition and mankind’s relationship to God, and 2) a faulty, shallow and incomplete message coming from most of modern evangelical Christianity. Let’s take a quick look at both. |

The Church |
A church is not a place. It is a local, regularly meeting, group of Jesus followers: a congregation. "The Church", made up of all the local groups of Jesus followers worldwide, has a purpose and that is to bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ by obeying His commands and honoring Him in every single aspect of our lives. We are thrilled to be a part of Christ's Church of Chattanooga. |

Dr. SM Lockridge was Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in San Diego CA from 1953 to 1993. In Sept. 2000, a retired Dr. Lockridge was spotted in the audience at the beginning of a Baptist convention. The organizer of the convention asked him to come up to the stage and open in prayer. Dr. Lockridge went home to be with the Lord only a few days after making the following address to the attendees:

Our Position on Church & Family |
One of the most important issues concerning modern Christianity is the breakdown of the family and the recovery of Biblical order to the church and the home. The near loss of the Biblically defined family is causing massive breakdowns throughout every area of society. The disappearance of intact families where fathers lead their homes and mothers appreciate their Biblical role is at epidemic levels. Children are living their entire lives dishonoring their parents. |

I didn’t grow up exposed to God's Word and I can’t remember ever having a thought about a personal Holy Creator God growing up. I didn’t have any purpose in life that wasn’t self-centered and destructive. I was making a lot of bad decisions, getting into a lot of trouble, and causing a lot of heartache for my family. More significant than my bad lifestyle was the fact that I was at odds with the Holy Creator, Almighty God. When I was 19 I hung out with a cousin and when I spent the night at his house on Saturday nights we had to go to church on Sunday morning, his parent’s rule. There was a new preacher one week and I heard some things I had never heard before about the condition of our hearts, our guilt before God, God’s love for His children, the way He demonstrated it by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and what our response should be to Him. My heart was pierced and when I responded to those truths, and to God’s call, I had a life-changing experience. I have had many ups and downs through the years and have, many times, dishonored the name of Christ with my attitudes and actions. I didn’t understand all that had happened to me on that day when He saved me and I’m still discovering wonderful things about being a Christian. The great thing about belonging to God as His child and having a right and permanent relationship with Him is that the Lord Jesus Christ gave me a new heart and a new life with much more meaningful purposes than my own. He has blessed me with a wonderful wife and family and definitely more good things than I deserve. I know that God loves me and I know that I’ll be with Him in Heaven when I die. My prayer now is that He would allow me to finish well, honoring Him, with the days that I have left. |
